Lofton Creek
The protected hardwood creek in Yulee, Florida allows for a relaxing paddle through the canopied blackwaters. Shaded and shielded from the winds, the creek cuts through the forest and wanders back in time. See alligators sunning on the banks and Cypress knees rising out of the tea colored waters.
Paddle at your own pace through towering maple and cypress trees. See if you can paddle far enough to reach “the Cypress Tree,” soaring over 150 feet into the sky and worth the paddle itself. The creek is located thirty minutes from the shop and is a short drive from Amelia Island. Typically we enjoy two hours of paddling on this easy year-round trip.
Lofton Creek winds through forests of Cypress, Bay and Red Maple Trees. Venture deep down this tidally influenced creek, past some scattered residential, and into the secluded tracts containing several old growth Cypress trees, some over 500 years old! This blackwater creek shelters a variety of birds, animals and fauna. Commonly seen along the route are herons, hawks, anhingas, woodpeckers, turtles, alligators, otters and fish.
This is an easy trip suited for all levels. The trips runs down a wooded creek, then turns around and paddles back to start. The woods offer wind protection, making this a great paddle even on windy days. The creek is tidally influenced, so there may be some paddling against the tide, though it is not physically challenging.
We will provide transportation from the shop to the launch site and back. Customers who have their own transportation and prefer to meet at the launch site for their convenience may do so.
You will need to arrange all pre and post lodging and meals for your trip. Gratuities are not included in the price of the adventure. Money is not required during the trip. Do not bring valuables. Guides will carry a waterproof bag for your convenience. A small amount of money may be useful for souvenirs or snacks at the end of journey back in the shop. ATM or bank access will not be available during the trip.
